Make Your Voice Heard About Childhood Mobility
-
Champion Safe Routes to School
Instead of hearing from our children on how biking brings them joy or from parents who realize time saved from having an independent child, political leaders hear from those who oppose change. Let's change that.
If you want to advocate on behalf of childhood mobilty, send us an email.

Every student, Every Day
Even for able bodied adults, navigating our streets by foot or bike is hard on a warm, sunny day.
Now, add darkness, rain, snow, wind and a mobility challenge.Until our streets are safe for all students in all conditions, we have work to do.

Laws and Education
What are we teaching our children?
Basic walking and biking education that helps students become more confident, mindful and respectful while inspiring them on independent mobility, is the goal.

Youth and Ebikes: Teach them how to Fly
Safe Routes to School manager, Megan Ramey, is very involved with the issue of youth on E-bikes on a local, state and national level.
Locally, she is teaching 5th-8th graders how to ride bikes confidently, and mindfully.
Statewide, she is on an E-micromobility taskforce to advocate for policy changes. It is her biggest priorty to change Oregon law to allow all ages to ride pedal-assist, class 1 E-bikes. This would be in line with Washington except requiring a learner's permit or 16 years old to ride class 2 (throttle) or class 3 E-bikes.
This would legally allow Megan to educate youth RIDING E-bikes and send a message to manufacturers and parents that pedal-assist E-bikes are a safer choice for youth.
Lastly, she is speaker and collaborator on the topic on a national level. Trading best practices with fellow policymakers and safe routes to school colleagues is incredibly important on this issue.
"Sex Ed" provides a powerful metaphor for this issue: we know they are doing it, and we want them to be educated, respectful and safe.
